World Alzheimer’s Day
As every year, September 21 is celebrated as World Alzheimer’s Day.
It is a good time to remember these simple warning signs that can help us make an early diagnosis of the disease.
- Memory changes that make daily life difficult (forgetting important dates or events, relying on notes or reminders, etc.).
- Difficulty in making a plan or solving problems (following a recipe, keeping track of the month’s bills, etc.)
- Difficulty in performing daily tasks.
- Temporal-spatial disorientation (sometimes they forget where they are and how they got there).
- Difficulty reading, identifying colors and distances (driving problems).
- Problems following or participating in a conversation (calling a chair, “that thing to sit on”).
- Putting things out of place, not finding them and therefore accusing others of stealing them.
- Neglecting personal hygiene.
- Loss of initiative.
- Mood and personality changes: depression, become fearful, easily angered.
