Eliminating gynecomastia requires a simple surgery. In this article I explain how we do it.
What is gynecomastia?
Gynecomastia is an enlargement of the mammary gland in men. In most cases, the cause is unknown although it is usually associated with an excess of estrogens.
Medical visit and preoperative
When you come in we will do an assessment, along with a complete medical history. We will determine the type of gynecomastia you have and discuss the most appropriate surgery for you. Within the preoperative studies we will ask you:
- Complete blood analysis to assess renal, hepatic, thyroid, LH, testosterone and estradiol function, hemogram and hemostasis.
- Ultrasound / mammography, chest X-ray and electrocardiogram.

How do we operate it?
Generally we proceed to the liposuction of the breast area to remove excess fat and leave the area uniform. Once this procedure is performed and in the same intervention, we remove the gland through small incisions in the areola with which we get a well shaped male breast. In cases of more severe gynecomastia where there is also a significant excess of skin, we remove the excess skin trying to hide the scars in the breast sulcus.
Postoperative
You will leave the operating room with a compression garment that you will have to wear for a month, taking it off only to take a shower. This will ensure that the skin is firmly adhered and does not hang afterwards.
The stitches are removed after about 10 days.
During the postoperative period you will take antibiotics and painkillers for a week to make the postoperative period comfortable.
You should be without impact sports and movement of the operated area for a month, but we will let you walk as much as you want!
If you take care of yourself during this period and pay attention to the indications that we will give you during the medical visits, you will like the result and the area will recover the manly appearance you were looking for.
