Everything you need to know to undergo a safe liposuction procedure
If you are thinking of having liposuction, here you have a series of basic tips that can be very useful for you. We have expanded the original infographic by adding our approach to liposuction surgeries.

And remember that above all your health comes first.
- Search. Look for a good liposuction specialist. Make sure he/she belongs to the SECPRE (Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery).
- Make an appointment. Go to the consultation to learn from the plastic surgeon himself about the options, risks, benefits and costs. Patient-physician trust is fundamental, so visit as many plastic surgeons as you think necessary.
- Date. Reserve the date of your operation. Tip: if it is on a Friday it will allow you to rest at home for the weekend.
- Preoperative. The plastic surgeon will ask for a complete blood test, an electrocardiogram and a chest x-ray.
- Medication. The specialist will indicate the medication you should have at home after the surgery.
- Accompaniment. It is important that you come to the hospital on the day of the operation accompanied by a friend or a member of your family.
- Hospital admission. Depending on the liposuction you will have to spend the first night in the hospital. The next morning you will be discharged from the hospital.
- Light physical activity. Walk 1 or 2 km, 24 or 48 hours after surgery.
- Physical exercise. After 3 weeks you can return to your normal activity with total normality.
- Checkups. Go to your doctor’s office for check-ups. This will guarantee a good postoperative period. Come back after 3 months to compare photos and conclude the process.
Other important recommendations before undergoing liposuction
- Be wary if at the appointment you discuss your doubts with a salesperson instead of talking to a SECPRE plastic surgeon.
- Reject “economical” solutions that cut back on the safety of the operation and therefore on your health.
- Operate only in hospitals that have their own ICU (Intensive Care Unit).
