My Scientific Publications

Research, Science and Medical Advances

Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla participates in some of the most prestigious scientific publications in the world both as author and editor.

I have always had a high personal commitment to scientific research.

Since I started medical school and later after becoming a plastic surgeon, I have always tried to participate in as much research as possible.

The list of my scientific publications includes research papers and clinical trials in the fields of lipofilling, tuberous breasts, vulvar lichen sclerosus, reconstructive plastic surgery of eyelids in Barber-Say syndrome or closure of myelomeningocele defect with perforator helix flaps of the dorsal intercostal artery or cartilage preservation in 356 cases of otoplasties performed in children.

Scientific Journals and Publications:

Background Tuberous breast deformity in the adolescent can be a source of anxiety and social isolation. Current techniques of implant placement and flap reconstruction are not always feasible in this population. Objectives The authors evaluated the use of autologous fat grafting with percutaneous fasciotomy and reduction in the nipple-areolar comp...

Barber-Say syndrome is an unusual dysplasia caused by the mutation of the TWIST2 gene (2q37.3), which encodes a protein that acts at an epigenetic level. The case is presented of a 2-day-old male child in whom ectropion, hypertelorism, hypertrichosis and other dysmorphic features led to the clinical diagnosis of Barber-Say syndrome, which was later...

Background Closure of the skin defect in myelomeningocele repair determines the quality of the surgical result. In large myelomeningoceles, the direct closure or by skin undermining may not be possible. In these cases, the skin defect must be closed using flaps to provide a tension-free and successful closure. Methods In this procedure, after neur...

Abstract Barber-Say syndrome is a rare dysplasia caused by mutation of the TWIST2 gene (2q37.3) encoding a protein that acts at the epigenetic level. We present the case of a 2-day-old boy in whom ectropion, hypertelorism, hypertrichosis, and other dysmorphic features led to the clinical diagnosis of Barber-Say syndrome....

Background Prominent ear is the most common deformity of the external ear. Although hundreds of surgical otoplasty techniques have been described, none of them has proved enough advantage over others to become the gold standard in this field. In this study, we evaluated the results of a cohort of 188 patients operated with two different cartilage-s...

Background and Objectives. We present 3 cases of dermato fibro sarcoma protuberans (DFSP) to document the unusual clinical presentation of this condition in pediatric patients. Patients and Methods. We conduct a retrospective descriptive descriptive analysis of the last 3 cases of DFSP treated in our institution during years 2010-2013. Results. A 12-year-old gir...

Vacuum assisted therapy in complex and complicated wounds has been used since the 40s; however, it has only been applied in paediatric patients recently. To our best knowledge there are not A level evidence studies in this field, although experience in its use has been shown to be satisfactory in the majority of cases. Due to the importance in heal...

We present a case report of an ancient female patient 81 years old with a giant epidermoid tumor in the inferior lip, one year and a half evolution, that arrives urgently to our Service from the Radiotherapy Unit after no improvement with seven radiotherapy sessions.
