On the occasion of the December 2015 special issue of the magazine SModa (the Saturday supplement of the newspaper El País) made a double-page report about vaginal surgery, also called female intimate surgery or female genital surgery.

On this occasion, journalist Rita Abundancia addresses the situation of vaginal surgery in Spain from several different angles, interviewing Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla and Dr. César Casado, secretary of the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SECPRE), as well as other specialists from different fields, such as gynecologist Francisca Molero, sexologist Delfina Mieville and artist Jamie McCartney.

As Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla explains in the SModa article, “we treat vaginismus with botox” at Hospital 9 de Octubre. We also recommend exercises to the patient after the intervention.Another of the most demanded interventions to Dr. Gutiérrez in this field is labiaplasty. This surgery reduces the labia minora when they are asymmetrical or very large. This hypertrophy prevents many women from wearing tight clothing and even from practicing sports, as well as creating insecurity when they have sexual relations.
