The supplement of El Confidencial, Vanitatis, has published an interesting report on the different interventions included in what we know as Female Intimate Surgery or Vaginal Surgery. The article is called: “Designer Vaginas”.
To prepare the article, the journalist Marita Alonso has interviewed several international experts in this field (such as the president of SECPRE, Dr. Miguel Chamosa, and Dr. Ivan Mañero, MD, PhD). Dr. Ivan Mañero).
Here are some of my comments from the interview:
“Vaginal surgery procedures range from labiaplasty, clitoroplasty, labia majora filler or pubic lift to vaginoplasty. In our team we include them within the female intimate surgery and we have noticed a significant growth during the last 4 years around 75%. Currently, intimate vaginal surgery is among the most demanded plastic surgeries, far behind augmentation mammoplasties, but ahead of face lifts and even rhinoplasties,” says Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla, plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon.
“The patients who come to the office are between 30-50 years old. Some have been mothers and others have not, and they mainly report that their vaginal area is not aesthetically pleasing. Often, due to the hypertrophy of the labia minora, functional problems are associated with the practice of any sport or simply walking. As this area is not visually pleasing to them, sometimes when they come to the office, they report that they begin to feel insecure in their sexual relations”, explains Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez.
