Breast implants: everything you need to know before your procedure

Breast implants: How to choose the most suitable one
Breast implants: how to choose the most suitable one

Breast augmentation with breast implants continues to be the most demanded plastic surgery in Spain. For this reason, the SECPRE (Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery) and the AEMPS (Spanish Agency of Medicines and Health Products) have published a leaflet for those patients who are thinking of undergoing breast augmentation with breast implants.

The document (which you can download here) can provide you with a lot of information and clarify frequent doubts and I hope you find it useful when making a decision on the matter.

I strongly recommend that you read the file if you are considering breast surgery with implants. I would especially like to highlight the following points:

  1. Surgery: as in any surgical procedure, the placement of breast implants involves a series of risks inherent to any surgery. Get information in consultation to clarify all your doubts.
  2. Temporality: with the passage of time, breast implants, like any other product, may deteriorate. In some cases this may imply a new surgical intervention.
  3. Controls: as a carrier of a breast implant, you should regularly control your implants in order to detect any possible anomaly as soon as possible.
  4. Complications: there is a possibility that the implant suffers capsule contracture, which can generate deformity in your chest and pain. Some possible complications are: infection, extrusion and rupture.
  5. Don’t rush: I advise you to wait until your breast is fully developed in order to get the best possible result.
  6. Undoubtedly: personal maturity and knowledge of the type of procedure you are going to undergo and its implications are also key.
  7. Realistic: your physical appearance will naturally vary and it is important that you and your surgeon share realistic expectations.
