The first symposium on Plastic Surgery organized by the Erding Hospital (Munich, Germany) was held from December 5 to 7 and dealt with the latest advances in the field of breast cancer and reconstructive surgery by means of lipofilling.
Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla, plastic surgeon at La Fe Hospital in Valencia, where she is a member of the pediatric plastic surgery unit and the craniofacial malformations unit, chose lipofilling as the topic for her 3 lectures.
According to Dr. Gutiérrez: “Lipofilling (or transfer of the patient’s own fat) is a technique that we use regularly at La Fe since it favors the regeneration of damaged tissues thanks to the presence of stem cells in the fat”.
Erding Hospital is a reference center for sex reassignment in the Munich area. The Erding – La Fe collaboration began about a year ago when Dr. Gutierrez invited Dr. Taskov and Dr. Isabella Mazzola, plastic surgeons specializing in lipofilling and sex reassignment surgery, to give lectures at La Fe.
As a result of this visit, a rotation schedule was established to share knowledge and techniques between the two hospitals, which began with a visit to Erding by Dr. Miguel García Moreno, plastic surgeon at Hospital La Fe, last November.
On this new occasion, Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez Ontalvilla has been the special guest of the First Symposium of Plastic Surgery held at the Erding Hospital (Munich).
In the words of Dr. Gutiérrez: “it is great to be able to share the work we are doing at La Fe with our German colleagues”. In her opinion, “lipofilling is a technique in constant evolution, so this is a magnificent opportunity to continue advancing in our respective research”.
