The National Federation of Private Clinics presents its Health Tourism Study

According to Jose Luis Martínez Meseguer, Deloitte’s Healthcare partner and head of the team that prepared the study, the priority markets that have been identified for Spain based on its national healthcare system, the tourist relationship with Spain and our positioning opportunities are Germany, the United Kingdom and France.

In second place are Belgium and Norway, followed by Russia, North Africa, the Middle East and Latin America.
Health tourism is a sector in continuous growth. The total volume of business recorded by the countries receiving health tourists exceeds 7.4 billion dollars, 40 percent of which is recorded in the USA.
In Europe, the figure is around US$3.155 billion, approximately 40 percent of the world volume. The main European recipient countries are the Czech Republic, France and Turkey, all of which account for more than 360 million dollars a year. Spain stands at around 140 million euros, although it is expected that, due to the natural growth of the market, it will reach 277 million in 2015. In any case, with the formation of the cluster and the development of the work plan set out in the study, the aim is for this figure to grow to 500 million euros.
In addition to the market study, Carlos Rus, manager of the FNCP, presented the health tourism cluster project, which will become a reality in July and will make it possible to create a global and competitive product that encompasses all the agents involved in the health tourism process.
The presentation of this study marks the first fruits of the FNCP Health Tourism project, led by Dr. Juan Bosco Rodríguez, which has been in the making for more than a year and currently has more than 40 participants.
This study will soon be presented in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Galicia and the Basque Country, in order to make the results known to the more than 425 members of the FNCP.
