Breast lipofilling is a surgical technique by which we achieve breast augmentation using your own fat.

For some time now there has been a lot of talk about breast lipofilling, do you know it?

Breast lipofilling is a surgical technique by which we achieve breast augmentation using the patient’s own fat.

These are the 10 most frequently asked questions about breast lipofilling that patients ask me.

  1. Who is the ideal candidate for breast lipofilling?

The ideal candidate for a breast augmentation with her own fat (also called breast lipofilling) is a girl with a stable weight and with fat accumulation in certain areas such as abdomen, hips, flanks, etc.

  1. From which areas do we take the fat for breast lipofilling? breast lipofilling?

There are no areas with better fat quality than others. The fat donor areas are usually the abdomen, hips, inner thighs and flanks. We extract the fat by liposuction or liposuction with fine cannulas of about 3mm in diameter.

  1. Once we have removed the fat, what do we do with it?

We proceed to a centrifugation filtration process to remove viable fat cells and discard non-viable cells, detritus and infiltration fluid.

  1. How many sizes can I increase in one session?

During a breast augmentation session using your own fat, as a general rule, a one cup augmentation is performed. Trying to augment more can result in the fat not attaching and the result will not be as expected. You always have to keep in mind that with this method of breast augmentation using your own fat you will need at least two sessions depending on the amount of volume you want to increase.

  1. If I put on weight or lose weight, what happens to the fat infiltrated in the breast?

After a breast lipofilling, the fat infiltrated in the breast will follow the same course as the rest of the fat in the body, so if you gain weight, the adipocytes or fat cells in the breast will also gain volume and your breast will increase in size. The same process will occur if you lose weight, if you lose weight, you will lose volume in the breast.

  1. Does the postoperative period for breast augmentation with your own fat hurt a lot?

The postoperative period after breast lipofilling is quite bearable and perfectly controllable with ibuprofen and paracetamol.

  1. Do I have to wear bandages after having breast augmentation surgery with my own fat?

After a breast augmentation with your own fat you will leave the operating room with a sports bra that holds the breast well and with a tight-fitting garment like a girdle so that the area where we have extracted the fat is subject and to prevent the skin from becoming flaccid.

  1. Will I be able to have mammograms or breast ultrasounds after the procedure?

After a breast augmentation with your own fat you can have control mammograms without any problem, in fact we will ask you for a mammogram in the preoperative to assess the status of your breast prior to surgery.

  1. If I have tuberous breasts, can I choose to have my breasts fixed by means of breast lipofilling?

Yes, in women who do not want to wear breast implants and want to have breast surgery for tuberous breasts, lipofilling for the treatment of tuberosity and the reduction of the size and herniation of the areolas can be performed without any problem. You should come to the consultation for an initial assessment where we will tell you about the procedure and everything related to it.

  1. I need a mastopexy (breast lift) because I have a sagging breast. Can I also have a breast lipofilling?

Of course we do. In fact we usually associate some of the patient’s own fat filler when we perform a mastopexy with or without implants to provide more volume to the breast and other times to get the benefit of the fat stem cell growth factors and rejuvenate the skin of the breast or cleavage area.

Lipofilling can be performed in other areas of the body. I recommend you to read this article about lipotransfer and this one about lipostructure.
