Breast Surgery: Tuberous BreastsTuberous (tubular or “goat”) breasts

They are a malformation that becomes evident during adolescence with uni- or bilateral breast growth.

There is an alteration of both vertical and horizontal dimensions of the breast which results in:

  • Breast with higher base of implantation and higher and shorter submammary fold.
  • Breast growth mainly in the upper quadrants with lack of development of the lower quadrants, giving the appearance of a tubular or “goat-like” breast.
  • Increase of the areolar plate due to glandular herniation.
  • Breast asymmetry present in more than 70% of cases.

Treatment is always surgical and the different techniques depend on the degree of tuberosity:

  • Redistribution of the glandular volume. In many cases it is necessary to use breast prostheses to make up for the deficit of mammary gland, especially in the lower quadrants.
  • Release of the submammary area to put the breast back in place, remember that the submammary sulcus was ascended.
  • Areola remodeling.
