My lecture on reconstructive rhinoplasty in Austria

The first week of March (2018) I went to Austria to give several lectures. The topics were: reconstructive rhinoplasty, lifofilling in sequelae of craniofacial surgery and infantile facial paralysis.

This is the second year in which I participate in this “wokshop” attended by 45 plastic surgeons of 25 nationalities, mainly from Europe but also from countries such as Israel, the United States and Canada.

In most cases they are fellow plastic surgeons of international renown… many of them are authors of the surgery books I often consult! 😉

Attendance is by invitation only and as you can imagine, I am honored to have been invited again.

Case report and reconstructive rhinoplasty

The format of this seminar is very special. Each speaker has to give 4 lectures: a case-problem, a follow-up of a case presented in other years, a trick and a last case on reconstructive rhinoplasty which was this year’s theme.

The presentation of a case-problem requires that we all have the necessary humility to recognize that sometimes the desired results are not achieved despite having followed the indicated procedure and having put all our effort into it. This favors the creation of an atmosphere of fellowship in which advice and suggestions flow among all colleagues.

In addition, these conferences generate an atmosphere of great camaraderie that favors collaborations in the future. In fact, last year we were able to receive Dr. Isabella Mazzola (plastic surgeon) at the Hospital La Fe and this year we are developing a collaboration with a colleague from the Texas Medical Center in Houston who has extensive experience in both reconstructive rhinoplasty and infantile facial paralysis.

On a personal level, I could not be more satisfied. I bring back with me in my suitcase a lot of knowledge that I am looking forward to put into practice both at La Fe Hospital and in my private practice!
