This is the summary of my lectures on lipofilling in Indonesia for OSAPS, the Eastern “sister” of ISAPS (International Society of Plastic Surgeons).
As you may have heard me say, I am one of the 2 representatives in Spain of ISAPS together with my colleague Dr. Jesús Benito. Specifically, I am ISAPS Assistant National Secretary.
For this reason I travel to give lectures on a regular basis and this summer I went to Nusa Dua, south of Bali in Indonesia, to give 2 lectures on Lipofilling.
Lipofilling or lipostructure is the technique I use to extract fat from a patient’s donor area and add it to an area where it needs to increase its volume.
My first lecture was about Lipofilling in tuberous breasts.. In it I explained how I treat cases of tuberous breasts in adolescents simply with their own fat and without using breast implants. The cases I presented of our patients were very well received. In fact they aroused a lot of interest since more and more patients with tuberous breasts reject the use of implants and want to correct their anomaly using their own fat.
My second lecture was about Lipofilling in craniofacial surgeries. These cases are treated at the Hospital La Fe in Valencia through the Craniofacial Surgery Unit of which I am a member since its creation along with my colleague Dr. Eva Lopez. This talk has been very useful for them because many reconstructive plastic surgeons specialized in craniofacial surgery attended and they have seen that lipofilling can be a refinement during the sequelae phase of these surgeries.
This conference was attended by plastic surgeons of the highest level from about 25 countries. From Europe there were only representatives from Italy and Germany. From Spain on this occasion only I have attended but surely we will be more next time!
Personally I attend these congresses mainly for 2 reasons: on the one hand I consider it a fundamental part of my continuing education (something essential in my profession!) and on the other hand, I think that sharing knowledge (as far as I can!) is a moral obligation that I acquired the day I decided to become a doctor.
So my calendar of conferences and courses continues, and in October I will go to the ISAPS Conference in Miami where I will attend as“faculty” to moderate a very interesting debate… but I will tell you more about that later!
