Dr. Gutiérrez works in the Pediatric Plastic Surgery Unit of La Fe Hospital in Valencia, one of the most experienced hospitals in Spain in this type of reconstructive surgery.
Treatment of Tuberous Breasts by Lipofilling
According to Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez “the treatment of tuberous breasts by means of lipofilling is performed on patients up to 15 years of age (within the pediatric age range of our center) and only when they have reached a grade 4 or 5 on the Tanner scale”. This scale measures the degree of child development. Grade 4 is reached by adolescents at 13 or 14 years of age.
“When patients reach grade 5, the highest on the Tanner scale, they have reached full development of both breast and sexual characteristics. It is then when they are candidates for reconstructive surgery by lipofilling”.
Tuberous Breasts: a prevalent pathology
The Pediatric Plastic Surgery Unit of the Hospital La Fe of Valencia has a great experience in the treatment of tuberous breasts (also called “goat”) as it is a prevalent pathology, that is, it occurs frequently in women.
Lipofilling instead of implants
The treatment of tuberous breasts by means of Lipofilling (or fat from the patient herself) is the option chosen by Dr. Patricia Gutiérrez as opposed to the use of implants. According to her words, with this type of intervention: “we manage to transform a tuberous breast, which is a congenital pathology, into a normal breast”.
