Breast augmentation or mammoplasty

Breast augmentation or augmentation mammoplasty is a surgical procedure to improve the size and shape of the breasts.

During the interview, we will evaluate the most appropriate method for breast implant placement.

The prosthesis will be placed behind the mammary gland, behind the pectoral muscle or subfascially, depending on each patient.

The breast implant can be made of physiological saline or high cohesive silicone gel.

The incision, usually small, can be made around the areola, in the submammary fold or at the axillary level.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts about 40-50 minutes. Usually, we do not use drains. The next day the patient goes home with a tight sports bra and breast elastic band. She should rest and avoid any type of exertion for at least 48-72 hours.

During the first postoperative visit, it will be verified that everything is going normally and the bandages covering the scars will be changed. In the second visit, after 10 days, the intradermal suture will be removed.

In general, patients return to normal life 5 days after surgery and should not exercise during the first month after surgery.

The most frequent complication of augmentation mammoplasty is capsular contracture, which is usually 8-10%. The causes are unknown, it is therefore important postoperative visits for detection and treatment in the event that it occurs.

Other infrequent complications that may appear are: infection, intolerance of stitches, local hematomas, etc., which would be detected and treated appropriately in the postoperative visits.
