Cheek and chin surgery

Cheek and chin surgery can perform the modification of the projection of the chin and cheekbones, by including solid silicone implants or other material.

It can be combined with nose surgery, lifting, eyelid surgery.

Cheek augmentation surgery eliminates the flat appearance of the facial features due to the lack of projection of the malar bone area.

It is performed by inserting a prosthesis made of silicone or other material that adapts to the surface of the malar bone.

Normally, the incision is inside the mouth, so the internal scar is not visible. The surgeon inserts the prosthesis through the created hole to the cavity over the malar bone.

It is usually performed in the operating room under local anesthesia and sedation. The procedure usually takes about 45 minutes.

During the postoperative period there will be some swelling or edema and the mobility of the lips will be temporarily altered. The stitches used to close the scar inside the mouth will dissolve after about 10-15 days.

A few days later, when the edema goes down, the implant is not noticeable. Complications, extremely rare, consist in a bad position or displacement of the prosthesis, eventually requiring a replacement of the implant.

Chin surgery consists of the introduction of a silicone prosthesis through the groove or lower vestibule, inside the mouth.

Local anesthesia and sedation are generally used. The procedure can last from 45 minutes to an hour. The scar, being inside the mouth, will not be visible. Sometimes, some surgeons prefer to insert the prosthesis through an incision under the chin. If this procedure is used, after a few months the scar is usually not very noticeable.

During the postoperative period patients report discomfort and swelling in the area for a few days and some difficulty in smiling or speaking that usually disappear in the first two weeks. Bruising may appear around the chin and neck that will recover in 2 to 4 weeks. We will explain you the need of an adequate dental hygiene and the association of mouthwashes as well as a soft diet during the first days to avoid infections, opening of the suture and mobilization of the implant.
