Face and neck lift

Rhytidectomy or facelift is a surgical procedure aimed at improving the effects that the natural or chronological aging process, the effects of gravity, sun exposure and stress have caused on the face and neck. A facelift can stop this process but what it cannot do is to delay the ageing process as when we were extremely young.

By means of a facelift we proceed to the extraction and relocation of fat, the fixation and tightening of facial muscles and the removal of excess skin. It can be performed alone or together with other procedures such as blepharoplasty, frontoplasty, rhinoplasty, etc.

The ideal candidates are those patients whose skin has begun to sag but still maintains good elasticity and tone. It is important that during the first visit you tell us your expectations, as well as if you suffer from hypertension, diabetes, coagulation or scarring disorders, if you take medications such as aspirin ® or sintrom ® or if you are a smoker.

The facelift is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia and usually lasts several hours especially if combined with other techniques such as blepharoplasty, rhinoplasty, etc.. The incisions are hidden in the temples behind the hairline, in the front of the ears in the area of the tragus and earlobe and continues behind the ears towards the scalp. If combined with a neck lift, we proceed to liposuction in addition to the jowl area and tighten the muscles, removing excess skin to define the oval of the face.

Frontoplasty or forehead lift surgery restores the youthful appearance of the frontal area. This surgical procedure corrects drooping eyebrows and improves facial appearance and the expression of being tired, sad or in a bad mood. The incisions are hidden behind the hair or sometimes in the hairline to resect the muscles responsible for wrinkles and excess skin. It is sometimes associated with a blepharoplasty in order to give a more youthful appearance to the face.

During the postoperative period, a light bandage is placed on the face and it is normal for the patient to be swollen, with slight bruising and with certain areas of numbness. Drains are removed between the 2nd-5th day and stitches are removed during the first week. During the first three to four weeks it is important to keep a certain amount of rest and avoid exertion. The swelling and bruising are reduced after two weeks.

The results are very encouraging and patients are satisfied with this type of surgery. They have to take into account that the skin will be somewhat dehydrated during the first months and that the hair on the temples will be somewhat thinner. In any case, time plays in favor and all these details together with the appearance of the scars improve ostensibly.

The facelift is not a definitive surgical procedure because the natural aging process continues and can be repeated if necessary after 5-10 years.
