Mastopexy: Breast Lift

What is it?

Various factors such as pregnancy, lactation, the weight of gravity and the passing of the years, cause the skin to lose elasticity and the breasts tend to sag (breast ptosis). The mastopexy or breast lift is a surgical technique whose purpose is to reshape and lift the sagging breast. During the first visit we will explain the different techniques, we will evaluate the tone of your skin as well as the size and shape of your breast to advise you what is best for you. It is important that you let us know if you are a smoker, take any medication, if you plan to have more pregnancies or breastfeeding.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts about 2-2.5 hours. The drains are usually removed after 24 hours. The next day the patient goes home with a special tight-fitting bra and must rest and avoid any kind of effort for at least 48-72 hours.

During the first postoperative visit, it will be verified that everything is going normally and the bandages covering the scars will be changed. On the second visit, after 10 days, the intradermal sutures will be removed.

In some cases there is a fluctuation in nipple sensitivity that is usually transient.

The scars are permanent but if you follow the advice of your plastic surgeon in terms of pre and postoperative care, with the passage of time will become much less visible. If due to a scarring problem, the scars become wide and bulging, a correction under local anesthesia is advisable after 6 months.
