More pronounced wrinkles, nasolabial folds and marionette lines can be filled with certain substances to blur them.
In our plastic, aesthetic and reconstructive surgery practice we use the following procedures depending on each case:
Fat filling or lipofilling consists of blurring wrinkles by injecting the patient’s own fat. Fat grafting has been used for more than 100 years to correct alterations in body shape. Neuber already described it in 1895 to correct a facial defect. Its recent popularization is due to the good results obtained in recent years after the application of technical improvements and the increase of our scientific knowledge of the functioning of the fat transfer process. Lipofilling consists of transferring adipose tissue (fat) from one part of our body to another. Being tissue of our body can not produce any allergic reaction and being a living tissue requires for its permanence that it can receive oxygen and nutrients in the new area of the body where it has been grafted.
Fat is the ideal filler, it is soft, non-allergenic, usually abundant, obtained by a minimally invasive procedure (a kind of delicate liposuction) and produces minimal morbidity in the donor area, which in most cases improves the body contour.
The main drawback of fat grafting is its reabsorption, in the early years losses of between 50 and 90% of the transplanted fat were seen. However, the new lipofilling techniques have improved the percentages of transferred fat that remains stable, with published percentages of over 80%.
The effect lasts for 12 months.
Hyaluronic acid is one of the main natural components of the matrix where human skin cells are found. With chronological aging, stress, smoking, sun exposure and various environmental factors, the concentration of hyaluronic acid in the dermis decreases, making the skin look dehydrated, not very luminous and wrinkled.
Injecting hyaluronic acid into the wrinkles of the skin helps to rejuvenate it.
Its duration is around 9-12 months.
Wrinkle correction is performed in the office. In particularly sensitive patients we use an anesthetic cream 30-40 minutes before the session.
This may last between 15-20 minutes, and the patient should avoid makeup or exposure to heat sources or saunas that day.
The patient is reviewed in one to two weeks in case any touch-up is necessary.
As with the previous ones, the effect is temporary, lasting approximately 9 months.
